I’m looking for some new SPD MTB pedals as the SQ Lab 511s I’ve been using for 17 months have too much ‘Toggle’ which ive not heard of previously. They are the XL version that has the longest shaft length.

My shoes and cleats are both relatively new and not worn.

just to prove it’s the Pedals I tried a pair of shimano pedals and there is no toggle.

Can anyone suggest another brand of SPD MTB pedals with a longer shaft ?

Wtf is 'toggle'?

I've never heard of the word toggle used in reference to cleat movement. 'Float' refers the the amount of rotational movement available for a given pedal/cleat combination. Very few pedals offer sideways free play. Only Time A-tac, Crank Bros Egg Beaters and the new Ctrl/Alt/Delete pedals from Wolftooth if my memory serves.

Also worth noting that there's a free float (Time and Crank Bros) and spring loaded float (Shi**no et al) which are very different in operation.

Is 'toggle' rotational float or side to side float?

Side to side.

my understanding is that float is rotational.

Side to side.

my understanding is that float is rotational.

Float is the lateral side to side movement of your foot whilst you are clipped in to the pedals.

Cleat rotation is just the physical adjustment of the cleat when fixing it to the shoe i.e. rotating it clockwise or counter clockwise to set your foot position.

But float is measured in degrees
