I will walk before I get the bus. But will cycle before I walk. I guess this is a win/win for me... No bus and more miles

Of course there are people for whom it would be impossible. I should also point out that I have every expectation of being one of those drivers at some point. My point is that when you stop and think about it, it seems completely ridiculous, and one wonders why nothing is done. Is it impossible for 4 people from the same village, who work within a 10 minute walk of each other, to share a lift? Perhaps we should improve the system of public transport, making it cheaper, more pleasant and more convenient?
As I say, it's a pet hate, from when I used to wait at the bus stop and see all this traffic taking up a huge amount of unnecessary space going to the same place. I just didn't think this thread was the place for lengthy discourse on the underlying reasons and possible solutions.
We used to live in Nottingham, and on the odd occasion we had to drive to Derby in the morning, we used to wonder if all those who lived in Derby and worked in Nottingham couldn't swap jobs with the people living in Nottingham who worked in Derby! That woud have almost cleared the roads!

Postmen who leave "you weren't there" cards even though the office doors were open. I have to walk to the post office now to pick up a parcel
Our postie did that a couple of times at home. I was sitting in the lounge and watched him walk up to the front door and put the card through

Radio DJs because...
1-They do that thing where they start talking about something mildly interesting then drop the usual "We`ll talk more about that after 7", When I will be at work and not able to listen.
2-They do that "We`ll tell you more about the problems on the M6 after the break" - Just as Im getting on the m6. Im sure they think that will keep me glued to their station, but I channel surf to try and get the info elsewhere (or plug my tomtom in if im stationary). If they just told me the traffic there and then I wouldn't change because the adverts would have blurred into their inane jabbering anyway.
3-They will play a jingle where they claim to play the best music, and it will have some decent music in the background. Then the Jingle goes off and they play Celine Dion.
4-I like a bit of old skool drum and bass, and a bit of jungle (Its an acquired taste, I wouldn't inflict it on anyone) so I listen to some pirate stations but the DJ that are on all conform to that form of speech where they elongate the sound of the last vowel in the last word of a sentence.
5-Sarah Cox. Just because.

I find that infuriating, worse when its a courier who's depots 30 miles away!. But I bet there's a really mundane but reasonable answer like they weight of mail would be too much for the postperson to reasonably carry, and there's insufficient staff/hours available to provide extra capacity so some parcels are left behind and cards taken in their stead. Or the posties got a hangover.
