they sent me a text the other day telling me to take shorter showers, and dont wash the car...there are several mains leaks I pass regularly in my travels, one of them has been there for so long Ive begun to wonder if its not actually just a new spring thats popped up as can you leave a leak for at least 10 years and not do anything about it !?! but they dont seem fussed to fix them.

Not sure you get many new springs popping up here in the fens!

Seems yesterday marked the fall of the flat; after valiantly resisting the sun all week it had become really nasty inside by the afternoon and I was very glad to get out on the bike at about 5 into air that was at least fresh and moving.

Once home an hour or two later it was tolerable with all the doors and windows open, however having shut everything up again to sleep it's become pretty unbearable again. I don't have a thermometer but the 'stat in the hall is still clicking over at about 26 degrees; only about 1.5 deg lower than its peak yesterday. I'm not sure if it's reading falsely high because of heat retention of the wall it's fixed to.

It's forecast to be "only" 30 degrees peak today, however I think that has the capacity to be pretty nasty if I don't cool the place down beforehand. Now I have all the doors and windows open again and the fan going; the air from outside feeling cool if not cold - despite it being half four in the morning..

No sign of the Anglian Water crew.

Maybe they tried to get on the Anglia trains ? That didn’t run because of track expansion……

Or cadge a lift with a local Tesco delivery van ? That couldn’t deliver in this heat; as they have no cooling (?). For food 🤦‍♂️

Or maybe they double-up and work with the local bin-men. Who’s new Lorry’s (For our new recycling scheme / bins) have numerous issues and barely work in normal temps let alone this heat…..

Or maybe they got stuck at the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft. Where the nose bolt stuck the bridge shut because of the heat.

Or perhaps they………

Inside my skull
I was somewhat gogsmacked and confused today at work, at the mentality of some people.
It was another hot day and I popped into one of the offices to drop some paperwork off. They had the air-conditioning going at full pelt and it felt like a blooming fridge in there.
I couldn't believe that they also had all the windows wide open.
I commented about the waste of energy and the pointless act of having the air conditioning on with the windows wide open.
One of the girls in there answered me back saying "that's how they like it"
I just walked out shaking my head in disbelief

People are stupid.

Finally some respite this morning - looks like there's a bit of rain locally, I have all doors and windows wide open with a good breeze pushing gloriously cool air through the flat. Stat's down to a mere 23 degrees; anticipating more heat later but it should be manageable if the flat's shut up following a good "reset" before the temperature climbs too high :becool:

A welcome end to a week that seems like a blur of sweaty insomnia and claustrophobic anxiety..
