Be afraid!

On Saturday night I took my son and two of his mates to the pictures. One of his pals was messing around with an application on his phone which was very funny but genuinely worrying.

What this little gem allowed him to do was hijack any other phone that was within range via bluetooth. He had full control of the target phone, could change any setting on it, access any file or folder and even make calls from it! There is little the rightful owner can do about it once the phone is jacked, all of the buttons are locked so removing the battery is about your only option.

Not a wind up. The program is called Super Bluetooth, google it. If your bluetooth is switched on your phone can be hacked and it works on any phone. So be warned. I can see this taking off over the next few years as kids cotton on to it. You might want to think about only switching on your bluetooth when you need it.

Yep, mine is off all time to prevent 'bluejacking'.

There are several applications that can do that, some not needing to be accepted by the other phone. That is why I always set my visibility as hidden and bluetooth only on when in use.

Don't you still have to accept the connection on the phone

Apparently not. My bluetooth is always switched off anyway, as I rarely use it and it drains the battery faster, but I spoke to a few people at work who just left it switched on all the time.

I want one of these phonejacker things!

I just watched a tutorial on it. The other phone has to accept it and exchange passcodes and it's a Java app, so it wouldn't work on mine for instance.

Serves them right for having a mobile on in the cinema

Na, One of them was hacking his mate's phone in the car and in KFC. Went to see Invention Of Lying by the way. It wasn't brilliant.

I just watched a tutorial on it. The other phone has to accept it

I think that some of them can do it without being accepted.

What you really want is a jammer. As soon as you hear the dreaded yell ''I'M ON THE TRAIN'' the device comes into it's own. I'd never get on a train without one again- it's bloomin' great!

I send messages to random phones via Bluetooth. It is funny watching peoples faces when they get a message on the underground yet there is no signal. Also interesting to see the stupid names people put on their phones. Fun trying to guess who has a phone called "bigBoy"
