How is it inconsequential?

The top end Boadman's are ridden by the Brownlees for example.

call it snobbery, but for years i was about the only person in my club that rode a carrera in the summer, and it never let me down. boardmans are also very rare on the club run, although there are a lot of planet x bikes, probably because you used to be able to buy them locally.
Maybe it's another difference in not riding with a club?

I look at the bits on the bike, and how the frame rides (or looks, compared to the geometry of a bike I like). I remember buying one bike, and being told the paint job was better (more attractive) than the last model year - I just shrugged.

Although, admittedly, I'm not keen on those daft wobbly forks, belying my dismissal of how a bike looks, I'd ride a Boardman quite happily if I could afford it, and it had the best bits for the money. Quite tempted by their CX, as it goes...

Carrera and Boardman seem to be doing quite well with Halfords as many of them are in easy reach of customers with limited budgets. Pinerello may be suffering, as anyone spending that much on a bike may choose to go buy from either a LBS or other bike brand.

Pinarello might actually get a better name for themselves rather than being seen as the bike of choice for overweight mamils in sky kit who have put away their golf clubs
Eh, I was ready to scoff at a bloke I saw out in Cheshire who had the full Valverde era Caisse D'Epargne kit, with matching Pinarello a while back (when Piti was Spanish champ, I think).

Until he ripped my bloomin' legs off, that is

Twas a jest hence the smilie , i had my legs destroyed in the mercia fast club run on Sunday, a wide range of bikes from giant propel`s, pinarellos , cannondale hi -mods ( ridden by sponsered MTB rider i gathered ) . so i was severely outclassed bike and fitness wise .

good point. with the team sky connection they'll doubtless flow out the door and halfords will make a tidy sum from them. halfords have the opportunity to increase their brand's standing amongst cyclists, but they'll need to make sure their mechanics are up to the job. good job (although sad) that all the pinerellos in halfords are shimano, not campag...
One of the pinarello bikes I looked at in halfords today was kitted out in campag and was £500 cheaper than the shimano equipped one!!

They are not exclusive to Halfords. Just like Pinarello, the top end bikes aren't sold by Halfords.

TMN to me.

I personally would not care where I bought my bike, as long as the bike I was buying was indeed what it was advertised to be and not counterfeit. That said, I think the image Halford's projects would colour the perception of Pinarello's bicycles in the public's mind.
