Never had a Pizza Express but I understand it is more upmarket (in terms of quality and price). Pizza hut is still quite expensive for what it is, and don't get me started on their gluten free pizzas (£16 for a SQUARE pizza that is half the size of the regular large ones). They do have a free salad bar IIRC so that scores points for me. I can't stand chain pizzas any more - very doughy base with all sorts of fatty and orrible fillings (who wants even more rubbery cheese stuffed into the already bloated crust?). I'd rather buy a fresh one from the supermarket for £6.

Pizza... there's a reason why so much is sold.... it's the cheapest food ever, originally eaten by po' Italian folk so the profits are immense.

I stick to good traditional English food like curry, kebabs and burgers.
indeed, i saw something on the news a few years ago about a law in napoli or maybe all italy that there is now a maximum they can charge for pizza after the locals lost their rags about the price of it

The mass-catering industry is just one huge organisation dedicated to making as much profit as possible from ship-loads of flour, sugar, cheap meat and fat, bought at world commodity prices and cooked up with colourings and flavours.
Spot on. And it's not just mass catering. It's industrial food. Fat, sugar, salt. Massive profits, enormous children.

Forget tobacco and booze, forget the motor industry, forget tyrants and dictators - if you want to see the mass killers of our era, just look in the 'Foods' section of the FTSE index.

Some years ago we were on holiday in south of France and decided to get a day train trip into Italy. Once there we went for lunch in a real, genuine Italian pizza place.
It was awful. Very dry and little taste.
Years later and we still refer to it as THE let down.

Pizza Express was at one time pushing itself as a proper Italian pizzeria, whereas Pizza Hut has always been the McDonald's of pizza places.

Was Pizza Express ever as good as the marketing suggested, and is it still a cut above?
