Planet X RT58

I just purchased it and want to know what you guys think of it, any real time hassles with the bike, is there anything i should watch out for? thanks

Although I'm probably only a week ahead of you, the thread that resulting in my RT-58 is a little further down this page. Unfortunately, you will also note that I got an RT-58 including the SRAM Rival 22 group set for £500 two weekends back. I'd apologize, but I'm feeling too smug!

One thing to note is that the photos can be a little generic. The bike you have linked to has the Campag Khamsin wheels (Fulcrum Racing 7 clones, I'm told) and not what is pictured. The saddle will be a the black version of the Prologo I have, so you should look at my pics (page 6) and Google the actual spec to visualize what you are actually getting, because the build list is accurate.

I'm a bit (!) tubby and the saddle sunk a centimetre during it's maiden voyage. Upon readjusting and tightening more aggressively, the seat stem clamp bolt snapped and I'm actually a mechanically sympathetic type. I don't know your weight or height, but I don't think it should have done that at the force I was applying. If your build hasn't started, I'd spend the £2-3 on upgrading it. Quality wise, everything else seems bang on for the money.

Fit wise, I'm 5' 10" with a 32" inside leg and fairly long arms. I would, in retrospect have gone for the 100mm steering stem, rather than the 120mm item, but that's more about gut clearance than reach!

Otherwise, I fuggin love it and simply being on a P-X seems to create conversation within the two groups I now ridewith, which are populated by the nice, but predictable Specialized/Cannondale/Giant me-toos.

@russ.will it's great news u got urself a nice deal! Im happy staying at 10 speed, ive been using 7sp for a year so it's still a great jump for me the saddle i ordered is in white not black due to my personal "taste" great that i can see another planetx rider as there not many around

the customization in my order was:
shorter chain (114 links)
different colour of saddle
policarb black bottleholder
superlight stem clamp
conti gp tyres
Non-Slip Textured Bar Tape

on the other note, can you tell me how much front fork weights please? i have currently full carb 410g front fork in my carrera tdf and wonder which one will be lighter so i might end up swapping them (they are both in black)

As campag make fulcrum wheels........i would say the fulcrums are the cloned and not the khamsins, but then again they are built by the same company so clones they cant be

I think where any company makes another's products, the word clone is appropriate. If it's the same product, who cares, unless one is cheaper?

@Torvi As I moved from 3 speed, frankly 5 would have been an advance! It just happened that on the weekend when I was ready to push the button, the RT-58 was available for £500 including a £340 group set. I personally believe the fact that a £200 frame, £340 group set, £150 (or whatever) wheels, and £43 saddle, never mind all the other bits, says there's a healthy margin in all of this gear.

I have no idea about the weight of the forks and from my point of view, it's irrelevant - Iwon't be disassembling anything to find out. For one, it's not the lightest bike out there,so who cares? And for two; at my weight I'll probably loose more weight on my next ride that the likely difference between any two forks. Until I find myself in the bracket labelled 'athlete' I ain't going to worry about it! As for swapping, are you sure the change in geometry would be equally as beneficial as a few grammes here or there? I'd ride it for a while first and only make the change if there was something to be gained in the ride characteristic.
