One negative about Planet X that I'm currently experiencing and should be borne in mind: I have been in the market for a new bike for some time now and have considered all options before eventually plumping for a Planet X. The niggle that I've found is the delivery time. One thing the website doesn't make clear is just how long it will take to arrive with you. All the other bikes I've bought have come from shops so you walk in with your money and walk out with your bike. The Planet X website assured me they had plenty of the size and colour I wanted in stock and elsewhere on the site it states that it takes 3-5 days to build it for you. I placed my order last Tuesday night and only this evening received acknowledgement of the order which tells me the build of my bike (for which they've already been paid) will only commence on the 23rd! So it could well be July before I receive the bike I assumed (maybe naively) I'd already be riding.

Had I been aware of the time it takes to receive your bike from them after placing the order, it would have been taken into consideration. I may well still have gone for that particular bike but it's not something their website reveals.
I expect you'll find the 3-5 day build a cautious estimate. I got email to say my bike was being built on a certain day. It got dispatched early afternoon and was with me the next day.

Just an update, the spec and description as follows from the seller.

This bike is a custom build and design, from completely new parts, starting with a Planet X RT58 alloy frame with carbon forks and using Shimano 105 components with some Tiagra parts and upgraded wheels. The bike has only been ridden for testing purposes round the block and so is brand new - see photos

The RT-58, designed and built by Planet X in Sheffield is an alloy frame with carbon fork and tapered headtube, built for all day long comfort. It is ideally suited to riders looking for a fast yet comfortable all-year road bike. Constructed from 6061 T6 heat treated alloy, the build is strong though anything but conventional: its chunky downtube and tapered headtube provide stability and the cross inspired flattened top tube adding extra strength, it lends itself to sportive style rides; long days in the saddle, eating up the miles.

The bike is size Medium (54 cm) with a standover height of 78cm. The effective top tube (horizontal) is 54.3 cm. It is probably ideal for rider height 5’9 to 6’0. The overall weight of the bike is 9kg.

My husband and I are passionate about bikes - he was a keen cyclist but has been ill for several years and since then we have been custom building bikes from scratch after carefully choosing quality components. We don't make a profit (often its a small loss) but we do it because we love it and it keeps us involved with cycling.

Seems pretty genuine?

I am your Father
I already have a carbon bike which will be the lucky recipient of the rival groupset
The intention is to turn the rt58 into a flatbar with the apex groupset off the carbon

Off topic but Anyone know how the khamsin wheel set compares strength wise to fulcrum 5s? Got a pair not coping with panniers, bad roads and erm my weight on another bike!
Have you checked that both bottom brackets are the same standard Vickster ?
Could have compatibility issues with the chain set if not, sometimes fixed by using an adapter, sure you will be just fine though.

Thanks. Both chainsets are SRAM, the parts are meant to be compatible across the range? Also my limited understanding is that the specific BB is more to do with the frame than groupset components. If I run into issues, I'll have to go to the LBS

The £500 new bike seems a far better deal. What are the wheels?

Unless you really don't like SRAM (like I don't like shimano)
