Had someone actually turn and look in my direction as they crossed the road in my 'favourite' street in derby this morning. Sadly they only did it as they reached the other side of the road!

the classic is turning left into a road and a pedestrian looks in front of themselfs but not behind ie checking traffic from the right ie myself...then walks into road and wonders why i nearly hit them.........

Another great one is Ipod cyclists on tow paths cycling in middle of the path then right, then left, then middle again....really hard to move past and near impossible to say "excuse me" over the music without sounding agressive ...

Had women today IPOD on bike in River Lee tow path, cycling all over the path, no way to move in front, so i say "excuse me"......nothin..
Getting nearer..."excuse me..."...nothin, i pull next to her and say "excuse me"........she then slams on brakes and falls off bike...:hello:

Ask if she all right, she replies "sorry what?"

The ones that get my goat are those who look directly at me and then step into the road. They get shouted at. I've had people do it to me while smirking at me. They'd never do it to me when I'm in my car or on my motorbike, but for some reason they seem to think that if they get hit by 13 stones of me traveling at 20mph on my bicycle then they won't get hurt ...

!!!

Turning into a junction you give priority to already crossing or about to cross pedestrians. The broken white lines as you turn into the junction is where you are meant to wait until its clear (it works both ways). I have so many times almost been run over and abused by people thinking its their damn right of way.

Personally I do check, but only for menatlists that I reckon won't stop - otherwise if I am ready to cross before they are near that line - its my priority.

One time I was in the road already and a car from the turning turning into the road almost went over my toes - I was in the road before I could even see the car around the building... car #1 carried on, the car about to leave from my left saw this and was waiting for me to continue crossing. So already being in the middle - ANOTHER car comes around at speed, stops 20m up the road opens his door to shout that I shouldn't be in the road! How on earth is anyone supposed to walk in this stupid country ffs.

What DrSquirrel said. If turning into a side road, you should give way to pedestrians crossing. If you can't, then you're driving too fast.

Its interesting that while in cyclist-motorist collisions it the motorist that is at fault about 75% of the time, in pedestrian-motorist collisions the majority of the time its the pedestrians.

That's not the reality though. Just look at such places and you mostly see pedestrians stood on the edge of the pavement anxiously waiting for an opportunity to scuttle across before the next car gets them.

It shouldn't be like that though... its just big bully boy cars(/bikes) not giving a shoot about anyone else...

Yep, but look on the bright side. They did get their almost ubiquitous segregated walking facilities.

And contrary to the protestations of cyclists campaigning against segregated cycling facilities, there are very very few motorists who believe that they aren't permitted to use the carriageway instead, if they choose to

Sadly there looked to be a terrible collision between a motorcyclist and a pedestrian this morning, along London Wall. I'm assuming (with very limited knowledge) that a pedestrian tried to run across the road but didn't have sufficient time, and the motorcyclist didn't have a chance to stop. That particular area is notorious for lemming style pedestrians, in my experience.

Why are we all in such a rush to get to our destination 10 seconds faster?
I think you could ask that question about both of the people involved in the incident you describe...

Whereabouts on London Wall was this? East or West of City Road? The western section up to the roundabout feels uncomfortably like a race track at times

London Wall is a killer, I've hit a pedestrian stepping out into the road on the crossing at the East end of the road and nearly hit a dozen others. It doesn't help that with the correct timing you can easily hit 30mph down that road.

BUT...Do you have to feel bad if it's a banker you've hit?
