When I got my first bike I got a Cannondale. I avoided Giant and Specialised as they are too common. Now I see cannondales everywhere as well.

What's the point in having a stealth black bike then! I don't get it!

Same reason men like women in stealth black undies. It looks sexy.
It's a fact that anything wrapped in black is 10% sexier.

Do you really think women think a black bike is sexy...not

If you believe that, ditch any coloured cycling gear and the disco slippers

Just checked out the Giant UK website. Despite the Defy only being a couple of months old their warranty is non-transferable.

I bought a used Giant bicycle - does it have a warranty?

No the warranty only applies to the first owner of the bicycle - Giant's warranty is none transferable

Would you worry about this? Paying out over £2k with no warranty feels a risk, doesn't it?
The Boardman, Propel and Rose are all brand new. Better options or risk it?

I wouldn't but it's your cash

If spending that much I want new with all the guarantees

I completely agree

Hmmm...
I guess the flip-side is we all buy used cars and motorbikes etc privately without a warranty. I know I have motorbikes second hand worth thousands. The seller however claims the bike has not been registered with Giant yet. I would register it to me as the first owner. Therefore the warranty would be in place.

Anyone have any experience of this? I could call Giant but once explained I feel sure they would say "no, sorry". Any advice oh wise ones?

what you are suggesting sounds a bit dodgy. The receipt will have the other guys name on for starters. There'll be a record somewhere linking that serial number to him presumably

Is the seller a long standing friend? Maybe they would sort any warranty issues if they arose. High end light weight frames do crack I personally have friends that have had cracks on Van Nics (x2 not including the one hit by a moped) a colnago, BMC and a Specialized. Buying new with a warranty is a lot of piece of mind I suppose.

I'm guessing not as he said it's not local

Go try them

Aero bikes don't float my bike but having seen the Giant yesterday in the plastic it is an attractive bike, arguably because of the lovely colour

Or buy something completely different in steel or titanium ;)

I didn't read the OP, just saw the pics. And yes, I also recommend the blue one..

Now op needs to fit his/her needs in order to buy this bike.

I do agree with the benefit of a warranty on a new bike, I cracked the frame on a focus cayo and got it replaced under warranty.

Having said that you'd imagine that a good visual inspection plus a ride to check would show up any cracks present in a used bike? I'm no expert so that statement may be incorrect but I was basing it on the fact that if the seller was selling due to a crack then that's how they would know the crack existed?

Perhaps it's unlikely then to buy a used bike with a cack, perhaps it's safe enough to assume that a good used bike wouldn't have any cracks. Ok it may develop one and you may have little recourse with the manufacturer.......but is it likely?? Probably not

I know little about bikes but for me I would go giant, simply because I have a defy composite 1 which compared to the foucus I had is excellent, I also like what I read about giant and their approach to development and design. I've just gone through a similar selection process but ultimately after reading and reading I went for a giant again
