Campagnolo Record Ergopower 10 speed Shifters - 2006 model - new and never used, still in the box.

I bought these shifters a few years ago for a little project that never took off. I mentioned them in conversation to somebody on the Saturday club ride and he is interested but l need to set a price.... I looked on ebay but I can't conclude a guide price. A couple of years ago I remember seeing on ebay a set of ONS Chorus going for £220....

Any ideas?

I would be looking for about £150-£160 as you say they are new but second hand.

What's he willing to pay for them? Ton and a half sounds reasonable.

Yes, he is willing to buy them but that would depends on the price..... the same goes for me, I wouldn't sell them for less of what people are suggesting here.

I just noticed these from ebay USA for $500+ and they're not Record nor ergopower, from what I remember the QS were to be avoided. So maybe the American market is the place to sell them ;)

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but....

Well, at the time when I posted this, long time ago, the person that showed an interest in buying my companolo Record Shifters was only willing to pay £140 and I remember that he got a bit upset with me for turning down his offer or maybe it was because I said he was £100 short..... he asked sarcastically if they were made of gold  So I offered to text hm the link kindly provided here where they were being sold for £260 but he said that was out of his budget blah blah blah...... so today I rode with him for a while and he asked if I still had the shifters to which I said "yes" and then he said.... "I got given some money for Christmas ..... would you consider letting them go for £140?"

I don't know why he thought I might consider selling them 18 months later for what he offered the first time round.....

His thinking is you haven't been able to sell them in 18 months so it's worth chancing his arm.

Your quite right to knock him back though as it would look like you were trying to RIP him off first time round. :okay:

Maybe because they aren't doing you any good sitting on the shelf if you have no use for them, and you've got dead money tied up in them. You must know what they originally cost you, and so long as you aren't selling at a big loss, where's the problem? For deals to happen the buyer has to consider the price acceptable, not just the seller. If you take the attitude that just because someone else advertised something on eBay for X amount, then you are automatically entitled to expect the same amount for yours, then you could be waiting a long time for a buyer. Any commodity is only worth the price someone is willing to pay. I would not pay as much for anything privately as I would from a business seller, because there is no warranty comeback on a private sale, whereas a business sale is covered by consumer law.

Yes but if you are never going to use them you may as well take some money for them.

They are not worth anything sitting on a shelf in the garage, you may never get another offer.

Especially as there 10 speed and now old hat.
Yes they are quality but we're not talking Rolex

Ebay fees and paypal...then the tosspot claiming they're faulty and swapping bits over and sending back.

I think you are missing the point here, I didn't buy them to build a modern looking bike, the idea was to upgrade a bike that I had already built around a 90's Reynolds 531 frame, and this guy was doing something very similar. I wouldn't expect somebody building a carbon fibre bike being interested in a 10 speed set of shifters.

Also, I have not tried to sell the shifters..... the subject came up while we were talking bikes and I mentioned that I had planned to rebuild my old bike but since I built my new Van Nicholas I had lost the enthusiasm to rebuild the old girl..... that's how he found out I had a brand new set of Record shifters, a new Brooks Swallow Ti saddle which I said I was definitely keeping when he said he might also be interested in the saddle, and other bits and pieces.

We certainly weren't talking Rolex and I wasn't asking for Rolex figures either ;)....The guy is not even a mate so I don't feel any pressure to sell the shifters at a loss, specially when these are rear now, the ones offered at £260 are the QS model which need a matching QS front derailleur and to be avoided IIRC.

You never know, I might get up tomorrow feeling like I want to ride the old bike again and if that happens, I'll probably go ahead with the project. Having said that, the last time I felt like riding something different I built a do it all kind of bike.... Surly Ogre with serious touring in mind.

Market rate is whatever your prospective market is prepared to offer. If you want a better offer, you'll have to open it to a larger market. Why not pop on ebay, and markup by whatever fees you expect to pay. You may get an offer you can't refuse. I always put this stuff up on gumtree too, but expect plenty of low ball offers. I usually just make a note in the advert that if I'm not responding, it's probably because the offer is too low to bother replying. :okay:

I sold my daughter's car on gumtree and as you say, I got some silly low offers and one crazy high offer which I suspec was some kind of scam, I did reply and exchanged a few emails but I didn't see anything to think the offer was trustworthy. I sold it for a fair price.

I try to avoid eBay, I mostly use ebay to buy stuff, however, I sold a Park Tools TS2 truing stand a few years ago.... I remember that I got an offer from a guy in Poland or Romania, I was supposed to send the parcel to London but the payment would come from abroad.. I thought the request was odd so I ignored it and the auction was won by someone in the UK, a very friendly guy who I exchanged a few emails with while he built his first wheels, however, nearly a year later, PayPal notified me that this guy was claiming that he never received the truing stand.... luckily I could still access the website where it showed his name and signature..... I emailed him too but he didn't reply.

There are too many doggy people buying on eBay I think.
