I was originally in favour of this sort of approach, but I was worried about monetizing chores i.e. asking the kids to do something and getting the "how much will you pay me?" response. I want them to help around the house just because we're a family and should all pitch in together.

As it stands, they do help out around the house, although not always as much as we'd like and not always at the first (or third or fourth:cursing:) time of asking.

This was the reason I abandoned it too, having begun this way. In fact you need to find a balance, which isn't always easy.

You're right, it's trying to find the balance. Although from reading the posts above I'm starting to think we are a little light at £15 a month.

We have a set of jobs they have to do, empty dishwasher and sort out the days washing. I think the tariff list could work well on top. I shall mention it to SWMBO later and see what she thinks.

I agree that this is a possibility but not one we have experienced to date. We have about 20 jobs listed which covers most possibilities and it is quote clear that they are the only ones we will pay out for.

I don't ask them to do any jobs, the choice is theirs. No jobs = no pocket money

My two are now into earning money for jobs round the house. Offers like a few quid to tidy their rooms get ignored, but easy jobs like hoovering or washing pots get accepted sometimes.

My son, year 8, gets a pound a day then a fiver on a Friday for lunch (pack lunch on Monday to Thursday).

Blimey £100 per month.
Do they have to buy their own clothes and tranport etc. or is that on top?

No, I forgot to say they are 17 and 19 and had nothing for the past three years while I was at uni living on a student bursary.

Hovering downstairs is £ 1.00 however you would have to fight my teenage daughter for that and I wouldn't fancy your chances :training:
I would think being able to defy gravity is worth more than a quid. Or is it like a jetpack or some mini indoor helicopter?

Anyway, 13 yr old son. No pocket money. He only gets home 5pm and is up at 6.30am so not much time left after homework for chores etc. Weekends are for sport, relaxing etc which is fair enough. We pay his mobile contract (£20/month) and sport club membership fees. We pay for clothes of course and if he wants to spend time with his mates or whatever I just drop him a tenner. He even gives me the change!
