As a serving cop I'd say it's your call. Is it worth the bother though? Sounds like you had your pound of flesh.

@Dave the Smeghead Sorry to hear what happened to you. Let it pass. You were wronged but you administered on the spot justice. I fear that if the police put any effort into finding the toe rags - which is unlikely given the date - it will be to frame you as the culprit.

Unless of course when he wakes up with a sore mouth he remembers that there might just be the chance of some Criminal Injuries Compensation, in which case he will be off down to the Police to report it faster than a fast thing.
Quite.

And who will appear to be innocent? The guy who reported it, or the guy who didn't?

Really, any other crime and you lot would have a different opinion.

You can report stuff by email, at least they get a statistic that way.

Don't trust Plod or the law to represent your best interests as a law abiding citizen. The fact that you've had a go back and inflicted some measurable damage could backfire and count against you. Don't take the chance.

Lombard Street....Near Fenchurch Street?...I came through there afterwards if this is the same location...did have some twat jump out on me up Lombard Street...not today but some time back and I went into one..He thought it was funny and had his girlfriend with him...there really are some twats round there...Lots of p1553d office workers round there if you cycle at the wrong times like I do...A workmate of mine also had an argument with a lorry driving twat down there insisting there wasn't a cycle lane down there even though it's painted in...

Apologies if this isn't the same Lombard Street...I'm sure Gracechurch Street sounds familiar...hope you are ok mate...

I thank you all for your advice and feedback.
I do need to clarify that I didn't actually knock the idiots teeth out, that was done by the pavement after I defended myself.
I have spoken to a family friend who is a retired police officer. He is of the opinion that even with CCTV they could all state that I was provoking them by shouting at them or similar which is why they jumped me, and then its down to the probability of truth and who would be believed in court. He said that as one of them will be eating soup over Christmas it is probably best to leave it at that as apart from a slight back ache and a scuff on my handlebars there is no damage done. He did say the police probably wouldn't even investigate as they have other priorities on Christmas Eve. Too many drunks causing an awful lot more problems for one thing.
I would leave it.
The pavement knocked his teeth out but you would be in serious trouble if the pavement killed him.
Sorry you got attacked by these creatures but hopefully they won't do it again.

If this is your regular route, might I suggest varying it a bit for the next few days (probable anyway, given the season)? There's a chance these low-lifes might decide to lie in wait for you if they feel wronged.

I hope you have a peaceful and restful Christmas.

So defending himself against a gang I think he could use an awful lot of force before it would be called excessive.

I suppose it is the right thing to do by owning up for going overboard on the self defence part. Just tell the magistrate that you lost it due to things that are on your mind. Just hope that its just couple of teeth and not a fractured jaw or something more permanent then we are probably looking at something more serious and possibly a lawsuit for compensation.

The guy slipped whilst attacking the OP and knocked a couple of teeth out, if you were on a jury would you find the OP guilty?

That part of London it would almost certainly be on CCTV, but identifying individuals would be difficult unless they had gone to the police themselves.

Should be reported, but as a lot of people said above I would be worried about being charged for defending myself so would probably leave it.
