I came across two polite drivers on my ride yesterday.

The cycle path I use - like so many others - is interrupted by several road junctions.

Twice I was approaching a junction where there was a car waiting to join the main road.

Twice a driver saw me and reversed a few feet to allow me unimpeded progress.

That's a good effort, the car surely has right of way at that point, so they had no need to get out of the way.

Perhaps both drivers were cyclists.

I had a few nice drivers last week who went out of their way to be courteous. And very nice it was too. I blew one of them a kiss (he was bang tidy, mind).

OK my UK knowledge is limited to Central Scotland, Highland Perthshire, Essex, North Cambridgeshire, South Lincolnshire, East Northamptonshire, Rutland and East Leicestershire but so far Essex drivers have been the politest I've encountered. They've stopped well back before a possible pinch point (even when it isn't and they have priority) and waved me through regularly and nearly everytime waited behind me through a bend if there was any hint of lack of visibility.

Generally speaking I find most drivers treat me well especially on the country roads. It's the minority that try to kill you (allow me the exaggeration).
Drivers of 4x4s and large van drivers cause me the most problems. Present company excepted:hello:. I've got a thing about them. Justified I think.

I hate 4x4s

So do I but only because I can't afford one. If I won the lottery I would have one of those pick ups with a front and back seated cabin and a big pick up behind. Something along the lines of:

If that question is directed at me the answer is no, I don't need to go off road. I don't have a 4x4 but if I had a nice one I wouldn't want to go off road and get it dirty.;) That seems to be the norm for them around Essex/Herts.

Seems to be the norm for 99% of them

I quite often do this when I'm driving through Rhos On Sea & Penrhyn Bay where the cycle path forms part of the pavement. As a cyclist you have a bigger understanding of the problems encountered. It's easier for me to stop the car and reverse a few inches than to stop and start on a bike.
