Franz Ferdinand - The dark of the Matinee

They are a great singles band and one of the few arty and clever acts to cross over to the mainstream - 'Dark of the Matinee' is my favourite of theirs too but 'Take Me Out' has to be up there in terms of 'pop' - it's one of those songs that will get people dancing in a crazy style in almost any context, which is definitely one sign of a good piece of pop. Great videos too.

(Chelsea Dagger is almost the opposite - a big stupid irritating terrace chant instead of a song IMHO)

I love The Troggs - 'A Girl Like You' is one of the classic British 'pop group' songs - four thugs making a beautiful noise. Reg Presley lives near my folks and he's a complete nutter, in a great English way.

i loved it when it first came out then grew sick of this at the time because it was overplayed - every time i had on the radio it was on, every time i was in a bar or club it was on! - but after a break from hearing it for a while i heard it again recently and love it again.
