Milligan was a very bitter old man in his latter years.

He won't take British Citizenship as it would have meant swearing an oath of allegiance to the Queen. I don't know why, he swore one when he fought in the British army during WWII. In the end he had a choice between Irish or Pakistani (he was born there when it was part of British India). He chose Irish.
