I ask again. Where do you see him saying he gave ANY information to the scammers?

I cannot read what you seem to be reading into what he wrote.

I interpret as him saying that when he actually orders something, he includes both email and phone number, and then if the scam email/text doesn't, he knows it is not a genuine Evri one.

Except they might just use one to notify you. No guarantee the online retailer will pass on both. Plus he doesn’t actually say he does that when buying something. It’s unclear hence our different interpretations on what he left out.

Well he said "I know the genuine Evri notifies both ".

It is possible of course, as you say, that a retailer might not pass both on, in which case he might wrongly think a genuine one is a scam.

But still nothing to suggest he is giving the scammers any information.

Well that’s the bit open to interpretation as he doesn’t say either way. Hence our different views until they clarify.

As part of my standard doubles defence I always enter my email and mobile number and I know the genuine Evri notifies both so I knew it was a fake.

More information you give to online retailers the bigger the risk.

I use both SIMs on my dual SIM phone, one my "long term" number I give to those who need my number long term the other I regard as "transient" and is a PAYG SIM with just enough balance to keep it active. "Burner" SIM number is used for online purchases and those who don't need my contact info long term so the number can be discarded without grief at any point.

Reason: several years ago a reputable company with an online shop that I'd used got hacked. Card number had to be changed quickly (card company took the "hit", several thousand). But then for next 2 years I was continually getting SCAM texts trying to get my new card details, easy to spot but a nuisance. But then the calls started, again easy to spot but over time they got threatening culminating in "Your address is <xxxxx> and we are going to come round and <yyyy> your daughter" - of course they were not but at that point I needed to report it to the Police and decided time to change my mobile number and that was really hard (many months later and despite ICO rules one NHS sub-contractor is still refusing to update my number on their records).

It can easily be inferred from the context and the fact that he said Evri use both.
If I was a betting man I'd back mine and @Alex321 's interpretation against yours.

If you really want to infer something completely differen t to what was obviously meant, then it is just about possible to twist it enough to think he might have been saying something very obviously stupid.

But you really do have to work hard to infer that meaning.

Can you not just Block the text/calls? On Android I can block any SMS, and I use a 3rd party app called "Mr Number" to screen my calls.

Spoofed numbers in that each call or text was coming from a new number. Easy for SCAMers to do if they even have a small PABX (when I was still working I ended-up having to setup and maintain company phone system and the caller ID it gave out was just a setting and we actually had several in ise (configured so some extensions gave one number, other extensions a different number yet all going out on the same line).

The phone numbers are sent out on mass, hoping for a hit, at this time of year it’s statistically more likely due to Black Friday and Xmas purchases, that someone will bite, they’re utter scum, the lot of ‘em
