What a surprise:

From the BBC:

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he has accepted a proposal to stand for president in March 2012.

Addressing the ruling United Russia party's annual congress, Mr Putin and current President Dmitry Medvedev backed one another to switch roles.

Long live democracy, or whatever.

Putin is one of, if not the, most dangerous of all the current world leaders. He continues to follow his training as a KGB operator and follows their practices very closely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Putin is very popular in Russia especially after the disaster of Yeltsin, they like their leaders strong and alcohol free.

He would probably win if there was a more western style of democracy in Russia, but I would not expect that style of democracy any time soon.

Although western style democracy seems to be failing the people these days, Labour were in power with just 36% of the vote and then Brown became Prime Minister .

Tsar Nicholas: hair. Lenin: bald. Stalin: hair. Kruschev: bald. Brezhnev: hair. Andropov: bald. Chernenko: hair (and how!). Gorbachev: bald. Yelstin: hair. Putin: bald. Medvedev: hair.

Definitely looks like Putin for another term, or at least someone who's bald.

This isn't news, everyone has known this since his last stint as President ended. The Russian constitution only allows two consecutive terms as head of state, but does not prohibit a return after one term out of the job. He's in charge now, it's just that he has to use his puppet to stay within the bounds of the constitution.

In contrast, someone on another forum observed that, to be elected POTUS, the candidate had to have a full head of electable hair.

If we get away from the tabloid mentality, we'll appreciate that Putin's leadership transformed Russia. Under his tenure Russia paid off its crippling debt and amassed sizeable foreign exchange reserves.

He brought stability to Chechnya (brutal though it was) and invested huge sums of money to that war-torn province.

Russians no longer have to queue for hours to get a loaf of bread. This is the sort of thing that a leader of a country is supposed to do.

Whereas our leaders take us to wars in far-away countries to 'help' people who've no relation with us. Whilst our own are struggling to pay their heating bills and putting food on the table.

Democracy mean j8ck sh1t if you can't do right by the people you represent.

It's a crying shame that Cameron and Milliband don't strip to the waist, grab a rifle, and go shooting Elk while on horseback. Or something. It would liven things up a bit, and the Youth would be swooning at their feet. It would not be a pretty sight though.
