There was a film from a few years back called 'The Madness Of King George', staring Nigel Hawthorne (I think. Lord Appleby in 'Yes (Prime) Minister' anyway).
It's very good, although I've not seen it in years.

They reckon he (the real King George) was suffering from Porphyria or similar, but at the time, nobody really knew what it was, which naturally made it worse.

Porphyria is hereditary, so any of the Royals could end up with it (maybe some have in the past and we are not so aware of it as they know how to manage it now?).

Yes, I knew about King George the 3rd having mental health issues.

The current thinking is that he had Bi Polar disorder. I watched a documentary on him the other day, it might have been a Lucy Worsley thing.
