You know those archaeology programmes on the telly, where they go to a field, dig two metres down and find an Iron Age settlement. Why did they have to dig 2 metres down? Is that because 2000 years of leaf fall has decayed into soil and covered it all up? In that case, why isn't the top soil several miles deep? I reckon the Biblical estimate of the Earth only being about 6000 years old might be true after all.
I think the Iron age in the UK was around 3000 years ago, loads more of leaf compost ^_^

On the programme Antiques Roadtrip, why do all the male antique experts look like they are auditioning for the role of Dr Who?

It's like the story of the keen climber asking at his local cinema when they'd be showing the mountaineering film K2.
"K2? We've not had K1 yet!"

Interestingly Masherbrum has only had 4 successful ascents. It is considered one of the hardest peaks above 7,500m. A combination of difficulty, high objective danger and falling short of 8,000m leading to a lack of attention. Then lack of success for those that have tried. Aint no tourists hauling up this one.

I remember a Scottish climber dying on it in the mid '90s'.
She had been something of a minor celebrity as I recall, so it was in the news and everything.

Her son (I think) later became a climber and was sadly killed on something as well. 🤷‍♂️

Are you sure that’s right.
Google doesn’t come up with anything.
However Alison Hargreaves’s died on K2 later her son Tom Ballard also died on K2. Whilst she was from Belper in Derbyshire she did live in Scotland.

Think you mean Alison Hargreaves and that was K2, not K1. She was born in Derbyshire, but did move to Spean Bridge later in life. Her son was Tom Ballard and he died on Nanga Parbat.

Julie Tullis was another who died on K2. That was mid 80s. She lived in the Southern Sandstone area and mentored a University friend. He was rather cut up about it.

Thanks, I have clearly forgotten some of the finer details. 😊

Uh huh, yeeees, I had gathered that, ... But I think for her it was K0 🤔😆

That'll be what I'm thinking of, yes.

Sorry to hear that.
