let's say bike is £ 1000, area home counties (looked up on E&L and annual premium is £ 100 approx but no mention of excess - surley there has to be one??!)

Not if it doesn't say so, I would think. Give them a ring they're quite friendly IIRC.

ps. Is that if you're claiming for a Surley Long Hall Trucker?
