That's a harrowing account, incredible the things that went through your mind. You are both lucky to be here and unlucky to have been hit in the first place. I hope that the ankle heals well but it sounds like a long winter ahead. Keep that grit and determination in good shape.

Were you wearing a helmet?

Of course! Interestingly, I was wearing my relatively cheap "commuting helmet" (Giro Indicator) w/ visor. The only visible damage was to the left side of the visor, which coincides with scratches across the left lens of my Bole glasses. I'd say the visor kept my face off the road at some point in the "spin cycle."

Had my bonce taken the place of my leg, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

BTW, if you need a good home for the Sportivo I'm happy to pay the freight costs

Are you a midget?

Never mind all that - hows the bike??

More seriously, get well soon. The bit in your description were someone moved your foot and you simply say "I screamed", made me shiver.

One word.....'flip'....(posh for something else...).....

OK..953 in the leg...stainless - good stuff that......fancy a bike in that......

Best wishes Randochap, hope the medics can work wonders with that leg - as well as the rest of you. The bike - well there are always other bikes...

My brother in law has a lot of metal in his leg. In his case it was a motorbike crash, when he was in his 20s. He's still going strong now, at age 65 - and still cycling.

I remember thinking: Must stay up. Then I'm seeing the undercarriage of the truck and a milisecond later the back wheels hit me in the right hip. I'm facing the wheels which are pushing me along the road, thinking A. Keep your frikkin' foot on the brake! and B. Those are bald tyres!

Bizarre what you think about in that moment, when I was hit I found in the couple of seconds I had between realising I couldn't avoid the car that appeared side on in front of me, and the impact, I managed to rationalise that I should try to hit it between the B pillar and the rear wheel arch because that was the softest part, and steered that way. But also I remember thinking, 'it's a silver 306, my next door neighbour has one of these'

My injuries were in no way near the severity of yours, but my bike came off far worse  and you should see what Uncle Phil did to his

Anyway here's again wishing you well in getting off four wheels and back onto two.
