I sat next to a woman on a train once who was a neighbour of the woman from Kingussie whose voice features in Slumdog Millionaire.

Random fact of the day:

In its 170+ year history, only 3 grey horses have ever won the Grand national, The Lamb in 1868 and 1871, Nickalaus Silver in 1961 and, most excitingly to those of us who knew of the history of grey winners, Neptune Collonges in 2012.
A gap of 3, 90 and 51 years respectively.

Thankfully for my humane sensibilities, Neptune Collonges was retired from racing straight afterwards and therefore out of harms way (despite giving the facts above, I still despise the event for its needless danger).

28 centimetres of rain fell in just one day, in Martinstown, Dorset, on the 19th July 1955. Making it Britains wettest day on record.

A surprising fact: British Gas can be efficient at times.

To whit: I reported a smell of gas (not the dog's) at 11.20. A van is up the road now. Less than 15 mins.
Eating their sandwiches, having a brew....
and a quick fag....

one I read recently that has had me awake at night - Voyager-1 has left the solar system will not approach another star for nearly 40,000 years, even though it is moving at 45km/s (100,000mph).

And good luck to it*, that's what I say!
