Does anyone use their drop bars?
I found when using them i can find a nice position for me and get a extra 5 or so MPH so i tend to use it alot on downhill or some flats.

I never use the drops. It puts me in too low a position. I say never, every now and again, I use them for 30 seconds just to remind myself why I never use them

I find once you get a good position you can stay their for a while(5 10 mins) Also once you find a position your body likes you will remember it.
Also the low position is the point. reduces drag affect.

Usually just for descents, or battling into a headwind. Most of the time it's on the hoods.

Oh and if battling into a headwind, keep those elbows tucked in !

Ah, you've not seen the setup on my bikes. I would say the bottom of the drops is around 6-8" lower than the saddle. Being on the hoods is fairly aerodynamic for me.

Edit: dug out the thread with the pic of my Ti bike. If anything my commuter is set up more aggressively.

i have 2 miles (ish) of lovely descent on the way home so am tucked in quite a bit! i use the hoods and drops equally on my commute but then if i stretch it out ill hit the drops for descents and stay on the hoods most of the time.

I find that using the drops too much make you look like you're trying too hard or you want to race.

I get overtaken most mornings by a guy who is always on the drops, but he's doing over 25mph all the way into work, and I can't compete with that!

I have a rule based on absolutely no logic or thought:

I am not allowed to drop down onto them below 20 mph.

If I am on them and I slow, I must get off them before I drop below 19 mph.

However, I often find it just as fast (or faster) to crook my elbows and stay on the hoods, slightly forward on the saddle.
