What is it with blooming Range Rover drivers and close passes.. Virtually everytime i get a close pass it's usually a Range Rover that's involved. In all fairness i don't get to many close passes ( thank God ) but when i do it's usually from one of these Chelsea tractors.. Today I've been out on a 25 mile ride which involved a small section of a busy A road. Most drivers were patient and overtook me safely and then the dreaded Range Rover tried to barge pass me. His bonnet was literally around 1 foot from the side of me trying to intimidate me to ride up in to the gutter. I've never been one for backing down to anybody who upsets me so i lashed out at the driver and banged on his window telling him to back off. After seeing my ugly face with steam coming out my ears he sped off into the distance. I personally think that people who drive larger cars have got no sense of spacial awareness and maybe a driving course should be introduced for people who want to drive such big vehicles. I've driven lorry's in the past for a living ,and understanding your spacial awareness around you is important. Anyway rant over.I just wanted to let some steam off..
Take care all, out there from those idiotic drivers that seem to be so abundant on the roads we have to share.

Are we talking proper Range Rover drivers, on the modern Range Roonies? I worry greatly when In see short ladies dropping off their fat kids at school in their Roonies or Land Cruisers, sonshort that that they were looking through the steering wheel to see across the dash. Their field of vision within 10 or 12 feet of the vehicle would be non existent.

Seems to be Audi's and to a lesser extent Mercs that used to get too close to me (I used to log notes against my Endomondo records when I commuted).

Afternoon Drago buddy.
It's usually the expensive Rovers i have problems with. ( usually painted up black looking like a gangsters car)

I've come around to thinking poor driving, apart from what you might consider a genuine error is, generally, a function of ignorance and arrogance, or a combination of the two.
If a certain subset of these drivers gravitate to the perceived, manufacturer's intended image, of a particular brand/model, then we get stereotyped drivers of certain models, Audis, BMs, big 4X4s.

I seem to get close passes on every ride. I genuinely think some people do it out of spite. I find that often it's the big 44 tonne artics that are most careful in overtaking and most considerate to me.

I got close passed by a driving instructor in his work car last week... the odd Range Rover I get, but a p*ssing driving instructor?

I've had that too - in fact, during the summer there are a couple of roads that are rife with them which I try to avoid. I took great pleasure in catching one of them up, leaning towards the open passenger window and speaking across the instructor to the pupil to pleasantly advise him that if he gets that close to a cyclist on his test he'd fail - and how surprised I was that his instructor hadn't told him that, before riding off leaving him kangarooing at the junction. ^_^

Around here it is dirty old bangers, small vans, manky estates and the suchlike that give me concern when out on the bike. I am seldom troubled by nice clean well kept vehicles, as the owners of them seem to care more.
