If you are "proper Yorkshire", don't you have the YP and gravy by themselves before the rest of the main course?
Pity it ain't true thoughExcept they're French of course.
They got the name yorkshire pudding because people of yorkshire being so tight they would fill up on oven baked pancake batter thus having to serve less proper food.
My mother came from Halifax so I was educated in the strange customs of Yorkshire even though I've always been a Southern Softie.I dont eat it because it too fatty.
However, when I was young thats what people did before the main Sunday dinner.
Correct, and it was how Sunday lunchtimes went chez p'tit marmoset. An edible gravy swimming pool!If you are "proper Yorkshire", don't you have the YP and gravy by themselves before the rest of the main course?
Have it with Golden syrup as a proper pudding... lash it on... delicious! My Grandad used to have his with jam as well.
I dont think people eat it as much now, all the people I know have salads and pasta etc, not big dinners on a Sunday anymore.

Yeah, true. I once ate a YP that was so stodgy the doctor predicted my next "movement" to be in July 2018. There won't be a second time for me on one of those though. I miss my reading time too much.

You're mixing in the wrong company
Most Sundays we will have a roast of some descriptions, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshires (with any meat...I know ), 3 veg, gravy
If a salad was served on Sunday afternoon around here there would be a mutiny on the washing up front
Today's is a Desperate Dan Pie (or two)Yesterday's lunch was a goat cheese salad...
How long did you roast the goat for?Yesterday's lunch was a goat cheese salad...
