Just remembered
worst present my ex ever got me for Christmas was 2 sets of day socks

but each set was different so the 4 socks of e.g. Monday had 2 of one colour and 2 of a totally different one

I gave up with them and just wore 2 at random

which was a great talking point with the girls in the school I was teaching at at the time

I tend to give it around 6 months as they do turn up sometimes.
I found one recently in the sleeve of a jumper which I hadn’t worn for ages.

It is not the socks

In my opinion missing socks - and other things - are proof that there is a parallel universe existing next to us inhabited by mischievous imps
and probably other mythical beings such as honest politicians
and they can pop through from time to time and take one sock - or one nut from a bike while you are repairing it

and then they pop back home

then a short while later they pop back and pop it in a place that you know for CERTAIN that you have already looked for it several times

this is the only explanation that I have ever come across that explains many small but annoying things that have happened in my life

and Science cannot disprove it!!!
