Im brgiingobg yo get that sense if dread of feeling lbs ot.... halfords.... is gonna be next6 port of call. What i find so frustrating is there are countless of you guys n girls out there with all the helpful knowledge and know how. You tube videos......it a bike so not likr im building a car engine.....
I dont k ow could the cassetttw be out of alignment. But ive got a cassette chain tool /whip and locking nut....i shoukd he able ro d9 this by process of elimination @@ tha nk you all for alll ti ur commenst so dar. Apologie3 for spelling probably an indication of why so many "offs"
From the pics it looks as if the derailleur is not in line with the chain so consequently it is twisting the chain. Having said that, that is if the chain is perfect in the first place. When I had something similar with Shimano it was after I had taken the chain idlers off and one I had not put back correctly as it was directional, the top one I believe. If you hav`nt had those off then they should be OK.
Also this...
...falling off routinely is not normal!
It's worth understanding why and changing that, otherwise poorly indexed gears will be the very least of your problems.
How about providing two images as described?Think a picture of your pride and joy from the drive side and an image from directly behind the cassette with the chain on small [chainring]/large [sprocket] would be good.
When the chain is on small/small you're cross chaining. Will try a few pics of what happens when in smallest cog front and rear..

The only explanation for this image (which I assume is small/small) is that the chain is seriously too long.
Chainrings and cassette sprocket small large teeth numbers please, eg 50-34 and 10-28. Distance between the two jockey wheel axles (c-c)?
Two images:
This will require the cable to be clamped. (We haven't actually seen any cable yet. And the side shots from post ?#3 had no chain, no cable and the cage was folded.)
When the chain is on large-large what angle (o'clock) is the cage?
What make/brand is the chain?
