I have emailed Saddleback, explaining the situation. Hopefully, they will authorise the fork replacement.

I will be back on here at some point to report the outcome. Fingers crossed!
They emailed me back today saying that they will handle the job as a warranty replacement and as it is a safety issue, they won't ask me for proof of purchase.

@fwgx - did they pay the bike shop to replace the fork or did you have to cover that yourself?

I paid nothing at all.

Which was nice.

But did pickup a new helmet from there when I collected it.

Great - that's what I wanted to hear! The bike shop owner was asking who would be paying for the replacement fork to be fitted.

I am soon going to (slowly!) ride the bike to the shop. The fork is probably actually perfectly ok but I wasn't going to ever risk riding at speed on it again after hearing about the recall!

Pleased you got sorted, but they could do nothing else. When something is discovered to be a safety issue the number of owners the machine has had (Be it bike, car or dishwasher) is irrelevant and no proof of purchase is required. They are duty bound to rectify the fault on every product.

I dropped the bike off and now have a while to wait before I get it back. I have another Devon holiday coming up so it doesn't bother me if it takes 3 weeks or so, but I would like it back by the end of October, ready for rides in potentially foul weather in late autumn.
