Update

I bought the Lenovo M8 as mentioned above.

Impressions so far are excellent - have even been converted to the virtues of 8 inch, to a large extent maybe because as I meanie I was delighted to find that it will fit in the adjustable very tough case I originally bought for a Tesco Hudl (Hudl returned as had a fault) from Tesco eons ago. That case has done sterling service rammed into panniers and bags.

Runs better than the old Lenovo 7 inch (which will now be used mainly offline - as an ereader and for offline OSMand maps) .

On reflection I decided that the fact that it doesn't have a simcard slot for more data storage was no problem - my old 7 inch has 16GB onboard and a 16GB card (will take bigger) but I never got close to busting the combined 32GB onboard storage so the new one's max of 32GB will be no problem.

Haven't used the mobile comms sim yet - may be back on a separate thread with a question about suitable comms sims soon.

Thanks for the help folks.

If folks have any questions about the newly acquired thing, just fire away.

I think that one comes down to the trade-off between price and network coverage!

Some networks do really good deals but their coverage is inferior. For example, Vodafone and 3 are not great in parts of the Calder Valley, whereas O2 is pretty good. I've gone for better coverage and less data.

will probably start a separate thread on that - my needs (minimal) are a bit specialised.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Not bad the Lenovo. I have had Samsung Galaxy tabs 8in and 10 in for the best part of 10 years. I love them. Never had a Lenovo

I had a samsung 10 inch - I found it overpriced and underpowered. With pointless stuff on it I couldn't remove. Would never buy another. And prefer smaller these days - 7 or 8.

My tablets have been Samsungs, but the laptop that I have been using for the past 3 years is a Lenovo and that has been very good**.

** Apart from its left speaker developing a rattle, but that no longer bothers me after discovering that I can use Bluetooth to send the sound to my TV soundbar instead.
