I’ve just run out…
I really don’t like any crumbly cheese (the Waitrose Davidstow mature I’ve just finished was too crumbly for my taste really, didn’t grate or cut well). I don’t want any smoked nonsense or something with bits in either  And no fake vegan cheese!

I‘m not buying it online and I can access all of the main supermarkets/high st retailers pretty much.

Bearing the above in mind, what should I consider?

Consider popping to a local cheesemonger and there will let you try a few so you get something to meet your exacting standards.... :okay:

Thx is is a bit mass produced though? Likely to be on special somewhere though!

Out of the 'on offer cheeses' we tend to get it - mainly for cooking. Other options are the more specialist cheeses in the supermarket - never had a 'bad one'. Just don't go 'light' or mild.

There aren’t any that I’m aware of unfortunately. I may not eat straight away either so vacuum packed preferred.
Waitrose essential gets good reviews, I should have gone less posh last time

Castello is the brand, Tickler Extra Mature.
Available in Sainsburys and Tesco and currently priced at £4.50 for 300g but it does come round on a special offer sometimes.
A little bit pricey but in my opinion it really is a lovely cheese but I only ever eat it on crackers which leads me on to recommend Miltons crackers as the perfect accompaniment or Jacobs Choice Grain.

Thx is it v strong? Or do they have a mature version for the more wussy among us?
it doesn’t need to be branded, supermarket own fine

They do a regular Mature version and the Extra Mature. I prefer the Extra but Ocado don't stock it at the moment so we're having the Mature, which is perfectly nice. The Extra is not mega strong, but strong enough to be noticeably extra mature.

Some time ago I sent Castello some feedback, just saying how much I liked their cheese - totally unsolicited but I like to dole out praise where it's due and feel the marketing people would appreciate some nice words. They sent me a load of merchandise as thanks!

If you don't wan't 'alot' of cheese look out for the waxed truckles - these keep well. PS Cathedral is in a zip lock bag, so keeps well too. You won't like it, but Aldi do some nice cheeses - you may have to go in !

I can recommend Lancashire Bomb Cheese - but may need mail order or a cheese monger ! I tend to pick up the odd truckle from the Dairy we visit for milkshakes !

Every time I buy cheese from Aldi it’s already off (they’re rubbish at monitoring dates) or goes off really quickly!
A decent 300g+ lump is fine, I just don’t want a massive hunk (well maybe I do but not of cheese )
