The Royal Mail must have been expecting everyone to be keen and have them all posted first thing yesterday morning (Sunday). Whilst at work, post van turned up about 0800 in morning which was unusual, I queried where he was going, and he said he had to empty all the boxes as they will be full of census forms, I looked a bit puzzled and said the chances are no one will have done them yet, especcially this time of day and beside, they do not need filling in till today, so most will get posted on Monday, and as he had a job to do, I let him carry on.

On the way out I asked him did he get many in his boxes, and he said "one". Oh well at least he'd have been getting a bit of easy overtime.

Suppose I ought to get mine filled out sometime this week.

Even in an urban area - I'm doing it in Greenwich, London - it's a lot quicker on a bike than on foot and there are no car parking problems. I'd imagine that it would be great to be biking it in a semi-rural area. But because it's very stop-start whilst riding (only 7 miles during 6 hours last Sunday) I've taken to leaving the computer at home - the average speed ends up taking a hit. Generally, whilst doing the early collecting (much of it involves households of more than six - continuation forms if they can't get online - and figuring out why questionnaires couldn't be delivered - usually because the council has never been too good at keeping accurate records) people seem to actually like the idea of the ''government'' turning up on their doorstep by bike.

Oh, if you do it on a bike, get clearance to use your own rucksack rather than the government issue rubbish - they're called ''dover bags'' and they're complete and utter tosh.

Thanks for the advice

What's with the disdain towards the Census?

I know humanists/atheists have issues with it as the religion question (optional) overestimates the religiosity/Christianity of England/Wales
http://census-campaign.org.uk/what-is-happening/why-does-it-matter/

Otherwise, I think it's a general feeling of anti-establishment, without wanting to join Rupert and his chums chucking bins through bank windows.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Ahh but there is also an answer later on which explicity says 2 or more 'A' level, so we're back to lying whatever combination of answers I give.
If you have two or more A levels you also have 1 A level.

that and its being administered by an american defence ( note the correct ENGLISH spelling you yankee tards ) company.

the US has an act that allows the Govt and its departments to access data collected by american companies.

I have nothing against the yanks ( spelling excepted) but i do not want any of my data being held by and/or used by them. thats why I am not happy with it this time.

if its for understanding local demographics for planning why do they need to know my health, how well I speak english, my education level . if the government wants to know if i have a passport they can check their own fecking records to see mine expired a few years ago and i am not renewing it. none of that information is needed to plan services in my local area . all they need to know is how many aduls there are in age ranges and how many children there are in age ranges.

tin foil hat made, fitted and currently being worn.

Are you sure he's not one taking the "sedating chemicals" - I wonder why he's going to Morocco?

The fine is £1000 if you really refuse to fill it in - although I don't think they chase most people that hard.

You'll probably just be fined a few hundred Arch, for lateness

He certainly has, in the past. I think he's cleaner now, since the baby arrived, but he's still a nutter for conspiracy theories, oh, and he has that lazy blanket hatred for the police. He's been off for 2 months, and I much prefer working with his temporary replacement, but he's back next week...

You don't scare me, I've done it now anyway....

I find it hard to get worked up against the census. Having done some family history study in the past, I just see it as a resource for my descendents.

I don't understand the hostility towards the census. The data provides a useful source of statistics, without delving too far into peoples lives. The questions arn't too probing and it only takes about 5 minutes to fill out the individual section. Some people look for a reason to be annoyed.

There's a first time for everything! I shall make up for it-

Oh man, who do the government think they are, making us fill out these useless forms, I'll have to take 5 minutes out of my life to complete them, instead of sitting on my arse posting rubbish online. So I think I'll make the process even more of a waste of time, by defacing the form... that'll show em! What really grinds my gears, is the fact an American 'spy' company is in charge of it, now I'm no conspiracy theorist.... but THEY'RE ALL AGAINST US, NEXT THEY'LL BE INSERTING TRACKING CHIPS AT BIRTH!!!!! I'll take the £1000 charge and go to court if needed, thats a much better option than filling in a 5 minute form.

My spelling is my major flaw though, have all my papers proof read by my tutor before handing them in!

I think I'm actually with Comedypilot and subaqua on this [anything for a bit of anarchy], the threat of £1000 fines pi$$es me off, and as for giving the job to an American company [Lockheed Martin] that is an arms firm doubly rattles my cage. This company has ties with the USA Defence department and if requested by the American government under the Patriots Act has to divulge any information they hold.
I think it's just the whole "Big Brother"/ID cards thing. Successive governments haven't exactly got a good record when it comes to safeguarding personal information, oh I see, that's why they gave it to the yanks.
