"Spending a penny" back in the day when beer was a shiiling a pint = 1/12 a pint for a pee.

beer is now (at least) £3 a pint 1/12 = 25p

The price is fine, but I'd dread to really need to go yet not have that 20p...

I always carry £1.25 in change (the price of a piece of parkin or Bakewell tart in my local corner shop) plus a few extra 20p pieces for emergency toilet stops.

I really ought to carry my debit card as well in case of catastrophic bike failure. It has only happened to me once and I did have my card with me that time so I caught the train back from Blackpool.

I don't understand the proposition of paying to use the toilet.

Surely they'd prefer I didn't lay pipe on the floor outside?
