I have always been a dry weather rider but it's impossible not to ever get wet, at least in the UK. So every time I get caught in the rain I go through the routine of drying the chain a bit and spraying GT85 on it.... is there a better way to prevent the chain going rusty?

I never bother drying my bike or chain after a rainy ride. The only time I've had a problem with my chain(s) going rusty was when i was locking my bike a stone's throw from a tidal river every working day... i put it down to the salt in the air/area. My more recent inland commute saw plenty of rain, bike locked outside all day and I've had no rust problems at all... i put it down to the lack of salt in the air. That's more my observation than a statement of fact, and not really advice either

edit. I tend to use one of those waxy dry lubes on the chain.

i've had sram chains rust overnight, ive had sram chains that have never rusted up...truth is ,get the best chain you can afford,i think that way it's got less chance of going rusty...still gotta clean it and keep it lubed:smile:

I just wipe down and if it looks a bit dry, apply some more lube. Then wipe off excess. I use a dry lube even in the wet, as the chain gets gummed up if I use wet lube on the roads around here.
