Given that they videoed themselves doing it, I think they might struggle with an alibi

Both are going to blame each other.as their not guilty defence, interesting tactic 🤣

Glad it's gone to trial, we might learn more about the motive, unless it is just sheer stupidity

I honestly believe its just that, same as the two idiots that stole that Paddington Bear statue recently, they just did it for laughs.

The case has mentioned the older guy I was thinking of, and the younger man, that were arrested but they were both released without charge and appear unconnected to this.

Personally I hope they get off but then I think the whole case shows how idiotic we are as a nation over some insignificant trees. It was growing close to a listed monument. A sycamore growing the close to your house you'd have issues and need an insurance claim to remove it and sort the issues out I reckon but a listed monument the tree was safe. Indeed the nation wails and sobs over it when it was cut down. Like it was a much loved child, not the annoying one you're looking forward to turning 18 and can kick out the house.

The trial is sure to log many hours.

Will Special Branch be giving evidence?

Yeah the national (and to an extent, international) hysteria was a bit odd. Must've been a slow news year.

If they were to get off does that clear the way for me to walk on to anyone’s land with my chainsaw and cut down a tree without consequence. Maybe cut down a couple in your garden one night for a laugh. 😱

I've got one you can do. I'll mark it with an X. Make sure you tidy up after. And while you're at it, you can do the bloody eucalyptus next door.

I agree with @Time Waster about the daftness of the whole thing. I don't care if they get off or not as long as the trial has plenty of entertaining nutcasery
