Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
There's two issues here; first is the tree and there's also the damage to an ancient monument.

It's just been the opening statement from the prosecution, often designed to 'persuade' a defendant to change their plea. There's still the prosecution, the defence and closing arguments.

Let's see what happens and I hope it's a fair decision as they will probably appeal based on media prejudice.

The criminal damage would clearly be an A1 on the guidelines. Starting point 18 months custody but with a range of up to 4 years.
