wall runs approx east west the "gap" faces south so loads of sunlight.
It doesn't look very sprouty yet, but then I'm not a tree boffin.....

It's a sycamore. It's a very large weed - wouldn't put anything past it.

It's a sycamore isn't it? I wish some of the uninvited sycamores that appear in my garden would be so un-sprouty

Just to mention a lot of seeds and cuttings were taken to be grown elsewhere, hopefully some will be viable.
A weed is any wild plant that grows in an unwanted place, especially in a garden or field where it prevents the cultivated plants from growing (Cambridge english dictionary). Not really an accurate description of the felled tree.

With what little I know of coppicing... things start to sprout quite quickly.

Exactly. Sycamores are very hard to kill, and as the original grew in that location, I have no doubt it will regrow at some point.
How pretty it will be is another matter, unless they carefully prune the branches until it grows into a 'tree' shape.

It has had a whole year to start growing.
It was chopped down in September 2023.
I would expect to see some growth from last year.

Don't worry, they're still thin enough to take care of with loppers. Then that poison paint on the cut. Not that I'm in thinking of it, honest officer it wasn't me just because I said it was.
