A few variables will come into play here but I'd say if you aim for 110-120, you won't be far wrong. Trial and error? Give them a try at 100, 120, 145 and see which suits?

Thanks for that. I'm around 12.5 stone if that helps. I've read some use more in the rear is this good practice?
 
at 12.5st, I'd start with 100psi and go from there. Difficult for anyone to be precise, without knowing what size tyres you have.

700 23c, does that sound right? I have been riding on 90-100, tonight I'm trying 105 front 110 rear.

because the harder a tyre is, the less deflection it will offer over an uneven surface. The tyre will 'bounce' over imperfections in the road, rather than absorb them.
So a softer tyre with more rubber in contact would have less resistance and roll quicker than a harder tyre with less contact area? No wonder i flunked science :blush:
