Road race bikes don't use v brakes 
In road race situations there is little need to stop. so disc brakes currently offer little advantage over rim brake systems.

I think road bike brakes are quite a bit lighter than disc brakes and you don't need quite the stopping power as say on a mountain bike negotiating a steep, technical downhill trail.

Also, the rims on a road bike aren't likely to be clogged up with mud, which effectively renders rim brakes useless.

And, most importantly, discs are ugly. Can't have any ugly stuff going on a road bike you know, and it has to be light. 
Discs make sense for a Cross Bike or hybrid.

Weight! and the fact they are completely unnecessary on a road bike
I remember an article about a company who had developed a hydraulic system for road bikes. The hydraulic fluid reservoir was actually built into the stem. The cost was phenomenal, and it just seemed to me that they had over engineered a solution, (superbly I should add), to a problem that simply didn't exist.
A thought I'm confident has been vindicated by the fact that no-one has adopted it.
