He didn't "pick on off duty police officer" at all, one of his victims happened to be an off duty police officer - his job has no bearing on the incident nor the sentence.
Just because the Officer and the Judge attend the same Masonic Lodge (maybe), that had no bearing on the result either. ^_^ (Smiley added for the benefit of Glenn Forger).

He's a knob, glad he's off the road.

Though don't see how the copper made a difference? I hope that if it was any of us CC'ers that we'd get the same justice!

I thought recession hitting the motorcycle industry sounded odd...he should have dealt with UK manufactured bikes

The fact one of the victims was a copper and therefore an "upstanding member of the community" would have scuppered his argument that the cyclists were just Lycra clad hooligans. After all policemen don't break the law do they  Plus it would have made sure his fellow officers did their job correctly instead of the "well he's only on a pushbike" attitude they so often take. Also a possibility of the odd "dodgy" handshake

If he remains a danger to cyclists what difference will an extended driving test make?
Does the modern driving test have a cyclist awareness programme?
He used a car as a weapon, ban him for life. One down, a couple of million to go.

Hopefully when he takes his extended test he notices the bit about cycling two abreast not actually being illegal.

I'm surmising he will also be a motorbiker and hopefully will have to take his motorcycle test again too.

As for the recession bit: barrister speak for 'look I've got nothing to work with here, go easy on him eh'. Just another excuse in the pantheon of dangerous p**ck got it wrong this time cases.

"He was frustrated by what he saw as cyclists not paying much regard to other road users. They were straddled along the road."

Cyclists two abreast are easier to overtake than two riders strung out, it shouldn't be a challenge to a competent driver to overtake two cyclists. But of course his time isn't that precious cos he has all the time in the world to slow and bellow abuse, in front of his two children. It's worrying that cyclists doing nothing wrong are accused of having "no regard". It's what the Cycling Silk referred to recently, defence lawyers often display an astonishing ignorance about safe cycling.

Don't know which is worse for the policeman, suffering a broken collarbone or being called Mr Squirrell.

Sentencing does seem to be very uneven, despite his counsel's protestations he still got a spell in chokey, bet he wasn't expecting that!

Good. Because the offences aren't even.

Have you noticed how some murderers get a 10 year tarriff, and others get a whole life tarriff? It is just silly to think that all road rage events are equal, or should somehow be treated equally.

Neither do I, the press routinely mention someone is a off-duty police officer mostly when it has no relevance whatsoever to what's happened
