Just because the Officer and the Judge attend the same Masonic Lodge (maybe), that had no bearing on the result either. He didn't "pick on off duty police officer" at all, one of his victims happened to be an off duty police officer - his job has no bearing on the incident nor the sentence.

The fact one of the victims was a copper and therefore an "upstanding member of the community" would have scuppered his argument that the cyclists were just Lycra clad hooligans. After all policemen don't break the law do theyHe's a knob, glad he's off the road.
Though don't see how the copper made a difference? I hope that if it was any of us CC'ers that we'd get the same justice!
