And today I've swapped my summer bike do my winter one, so my Sidi road shoes have also been swapped for my Shimano winter mtb shoes... which I can now confirm are lighter than the Sidis.

I fear I would be laughed off the road if I turned up in a professional peloton, full stop. Regardless of my legs and shoes.

actually got me thinking now - all I need is better shoes, and I can join the pro's :-)
I do drink a lot of coffee - would I have problems with the drugs testing ?

You genuinely might with instant coffee!

ah well. I didn't mind changing my shoes, as I guess the pro's get tea and cake brought to them so don't need to walk round so much, but I'm not giving up coffee. They'll have to do without me

The OP doesn't say what kind of riding he/she does. If commuting is part of it, then I'd recommend sticking with MTB. I see people commuting in road cleats, but a good few of them seem to spend the first few seconds after getting away from the traffic lights looking at their pedals trying to get them the right way round to clip in. SPBs (and other MTB cleats too expect) are double sided, so attention is not usually diverted. Something worth considering.
