If you do hit a pot hole and it damages your bike can you make a claim for it from the local council as you are supposed to be able to in a car?

If you didn't hit a pothole, haven't had a puncture causing the bike to run on the rim, haven't exceeded the max. pressure for the rim, then I'd suspect a manufacturing fault.

If the wheel was fairly new you'd be able to argue for refund/replacement, but as it sounds as if the rim's older than that you could try a letter or email with photos to the makers.

Worth a search on forums etc. first (here, CTC, YACF and others) to see if other people have had the same thing with the same rims.

Ahem... see my previous post (#13)!

It's probably time for me to give my Mavic rims a close inspection. They are 11 years old now with probably over 25,000 miles on them.

The roads on my route through Derby have got progressively worse since the winter.

I should add I'm riding a 37-tyred hybrid with more spokes than I can count so my bike appears to be enduring what I'd imagine I'd break a road bike on.

This mess here has spread and deepened significantly since this photo was taken - there are now what appear to be exposed BRICKS under the road:

The area between the silver car and the railings to it's left is apparently a 'cycle lane'. The road surface has degenerated since the winter to being utterly unrideable upon. The council have, however, repainted the markings. Obviously somebody hates cyclists.

This open area of the junction now closely resembles the surface of the moon. I either have to wind around this busy junction like a drunkard and risk the ire or worse of my accompanying motorists, or I risk getting chucked off and/or my bike wrecked by a pothole:

The Tower Gateway to Southwark Bridge (Upper/Lower Thames Street) is poxy because it's full of potholes caused by heavy lorries trundling along there by the dozens of lorries which doesn't do a lot for my wheels...I only go along there when I am filming now...Like today.
