Hi, i'm new to cycling so be gentle please:blush:
i quite like the rohloff set up but would it work for a fast road bike ?
i'm not looking to break any records at my age but the rohloff is drawing me in a bit.
Thanks

You would be looking at a more light touring bike.

Have a look at the genesis alfine 11.

Without knowing what your budget is (though I am assuming it is decent with you mentioning Rohloff in the first place), have a look at the Thorn Raven tour (26" wheels) series or Thorn Mercury (700c wheels) series bikes - for example this one (size might not be correct) http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-raven-tour-562s-cobalt-blue-rohloff-hub-bike-new-prod30758/ or this http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-raven-sport-tour-536l-gloss-red-rohloff-bike-new-prod30698/ These ones are ones the shop have built for other customers who have changed their mind, so don't have the standard 100 day return policy but that comes with a good saving £££...

They are lighter weight touring bikes with drop bars and rohloff hubs (we have the thorn nomad mk ii with rohloff hub).

http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-shopthorn_pg1/ will give you an idea on what is available with and without Rohloff hubs, or you can have a bike custom made (as we did). The Thorn Mercury is a 700c wheel size bike which can take a Rohloff hub as well. http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/models.html

Some people like Thorn and other's don't. We do and can't fault SJSC's service and help when we were on our (aborted) world tour when we needed their assistance (Schmidt warranty claim and an issue with my rohloff gear cable changer freezing due to water ingress - my own fault).

Thorn give lifetime guarantee on frame and hub - unfortunately I've had to use both  The backup service was fantastic and they even lent me a spare wheel while mine went back to Germany

The Thorn bikes are superb, reliable, solid and dependable work horses that I would thoroughly recommend for touring.............. however that reason they are s good is also the reason why they do so well here is why they will probably not suit the OP as they are heavy, lack the "waywardness" of road bikes and are not speed machines

Or maybe they got all the info they needed from SNSSO post and left us as a happy customer with plenty of ideas to look into.
In which case, it would have been nice if they had at least said 'thank you' before moving on!
