Report it. A very similar accident happened to me, relatively slow speed, but it ended up with a very serious injury. Bike just had a scratch. It's going to cost more than 40 for a chainset and front mech. Your frame could be bent.

People need to start looking at where they are pointing their cars. If you are with British Cycling or CTC phone the help line and they will help -

All a bit more unpleasant than I thought yesterday. Xrays taken result fractured shoulder blade and off work, written statement made at the copshop. Tomorrow's mission will be salvage, before NYE vandals are at large as happened many years ago. I hope/recall the frame to be ok, chainset was a goodun with old fashioned ratios. Still I feel reletively lucky as far to few motorists are also cyclysts.

Eek, not so good to find yourself off work, GWS.
There used to be an "all you should do if you have been involved in a traffic collision" guide on this forum, maybe someone else knows where it is?
I do remember it emphasised the importance of recording everything that happened prior to the collision and afterwards, positions and directions of vehicles , words spoken by you, by the driver, and any witnesses, also any expenditure you may have due to your bike being unusable.
This is not done in order to screw every last penny from the driver, but if a case goes to court it is important that your version of the incident remains constant throughout. Everything will be clear in your mind right now so write it down before your memory fades as it inevitably will. Also, whilst the driver may appear cooperative at the moment his attitude may change when the full costs of the incident become apparent.

In that case, I'd certainly be speaking to a solicitor in the new year, if not to recover loss of earnings etc. If not a member of a cycling org, given your location, you could try the service Pearsons offer

http://www.pearsoncycles.co.uk/accident-advice/

@classic33 developed the guide referred to above

Use a taxi to retrieve your bike. Keep the receipt, add to claim if you proceed

All the best

Thank you Vickster
I have not looked into this yet, but presumably your suggestions will be miles better than the ambulance chasers that advertise in A&E.

Yes, find a firm that has specialism in cycling claims. Presumably you aren't a BC, LCC, CTC (cycling U.K. Member)

Make sure you folllow the medical advice to the letter. Get Physio sorted as soon as appropriate (presumably the fracture doesn't require surgery).
Don't expect any claim to settle quickly, you'll need to be fully recovered first (I'm coming up 3 years on mine)

Sorry to hear of your woes, as a newbie it's certainly got me thinking of insurance. Hope you heal quickly.

Leigh Day will take you on as a no win no fee. They have handled a few cases for me. They've done a sterling job so far with my fractured spine claim. I hope you've got the driver's details. Solicitors do have access to insurance databases, so you only need the registration and name.

It's good you have had a good experience .

I wouldn't expect them to be quick, I have to confess I'm beginning to lose patience with the process, especially seeing medical experts. It's taken over 9 months so far since I requested to see someone about the shoulder, and as I just had more surgery, it could now be another 6 months before I see him! Oh and the so called expert I saw about my leg injury was basically inept, so much so, it may not be useful to use the reports (that process took high on 2 years too and means I can't even start to claim for loss of earnings or out of pockets, already several grand)

Little toddle of down the road and the easiest of salvages. The frame looks ok and wheeled it home after removing the chain and chainwheel for the second time in one week.
