Thule now sell a carbon-fibre-frame protector

I use a Thule proride 598 with 3 carbon framed bikes and have never had a problem with any of them. The tightening knob has a built in torque limiter so it's impossible to over tighten.

I use the Thule model which you remove the front wheel and use the a clamp in place of the front skewer not attachment to the frame and very secure
