Anyone else from Edinburgh encountered the woman walking her dog in Roseburn Park at around 6.25 - 6.30am ? She lets the extendable lead out wide as you approach and walks into your way as you slowly try to get around her and the mutt. Whilst she does this, she switches on a torch, shines it at you and says "Slow Down !"

I will put my hand on my heart and say I am almost at 'unclip and put a foot down to prevent falling over' speed as I approach her, as I see her from some way off and can see the dog lead extending across the path. I also know that she will walk into my way, so it's totally unsafe to be going at more than a walking pace.

The path is a car and a half's width wide, so there's acres of room. I think she may be a bit of a nutter. I have a feeling that trying to block an entire path and walk into a slow cyclist's way is going to eventually lead me to make some kind of comment back.

maybe she's related to the lady in Surrey who lets her dog take his stick all round the football pitch when the kids are trying to play their school matches! What is it with people

My mate Caz once observed woman on mobile phone with a dog (little flea taxi) running amok on one of those extendable leads at full extension. This was on a busy Serpentine Road in Hyde Park. He got the doggie's attention, and skated round and round the woman, wrapping her in the lead. I think he got to 5 circuits before she started paying attention, and she got really pissed off. LOL, just goes to show how stupid and oblivious people are when they are on the phone.

ROFL!

I went through the park at about 06:23 this morning, but the only dog walker I saw was the one I usually see at that time (and she isn't any bother).

I was probably a good thing, as I was in no mood to take crap from anyone. I had just had a near miss with a learner on a scooter who overtook me as I was turning right into Roseburn Place (obviously not experienced enough to understand what my road position and fully extended right arm were about). If she had tried anything with me, then she would have got a hell of a lot more than she bargained for.

Maybe this would help with the dog?

We must just miss each other. You weren't the guy on Tuesday who came flying down from Corstorphine Road and out of the junction just in front of me the other morning, and then I followed you through the park before you went straight along the dirt path at the side of Murrayfield Ice Rink ?

Goo, it sounds as if this lady has learning difficulties and many of the suggestions above - while intended to be amusing  - are not really very helpful.

If it comes to 'wurds' I suggest gently pointing out that it is a Shared Use Path (assuming it is ), which means you are all allowed to use it, that you are slowing down and that if she could keep the dog a bit nearer to her, it will be safer for all concerned. After all, you don't want to hurt the little doggie-woggie  (or that's the party line anyway xx().

If so brave, a suggestion that shining a torch directly into your face is not going to help anyone either. Now if she were to shine the torch onto the lead so you could see it clearly, that would help both of you.

Or something .....

Wasn't me - I took the car in on Tuesday. My normal route is to turn out of the park at the bridge, and then follow Riversdale Crescent heading towards Stenhouse.

I prefer to stick to the road as I usually end up getting p******** if I ride on paths/cycle tracks (especially when it is dark). I only started using the park when they closed off the top end of Riversdale Crescent for road works.

That's fantastic!

Goo - it sounds to my ill-informed mind as if the lady is having "Librarian Issues" - so used to telling people to stop talking that even the slightest mumur becomes a reason to shout at them.

Or in her case, maybe somebody or bodies had scared her stiff (either intentionally or otherwise) over a period of time and now she over reacts to everyone.

What i'd do if your bothered is stop a distance away and let her pass and see what she does: though if shes a 'crazy' then she may try and 'kill you' or something for know reason so better still: dont !

Similar from that part of my journey - park, bridge, Riversdale Crescent, Riversdale Road, Saughtonhall Avenue, Saughtonhall Drive, Balgreen Road, Whitson Road, Stenhouse Avenue West, then out and on to Edinburgh Park. I've no doubt I've seen you / overtaken you / been overtaken by you over the last few years, though I'd never have known you were a CC person.

I used to use the paths & tracks before I got my road bike. The dirt track along the side if the ice-rink & stadium was always fun on dark mornings with ninja dogwalkers (or the time I had to climb through a fallen tree blocking the path one stormy winter morning) !

She got me!

I was cycling through the park this morning and had slowed down to pass the woman I see most mornings and she shined the torch right into my eyes. I couldn't see where I was going, and she was lucky I didn't run her over. I couldn't make out what she looked like (she had her hood up) but she is definitely the woman I see most mornings (I recognised her dog).

I didn't have my Uber light with me, so I had to just give her a bit of verbal. The light is back on the bike and she is geting full beam tomorrow.

Slow down

Unclip

Place your bike safely to one side

Bid her a good morning

Take off helmet ( ignore this if you don't wear one)

Approach said female

Cut/unclip/remove dog collar ( delete as appropriate)

Pick up little mutt

Look up

Drop kick the little ****er over the nearest tree branch.

( If done right the bag lady will be screaming......... about now)

Walk up to the old duck

Tie dog lead around ankles ( works better if done tightly)

Once secured, a gentle push is all the is required.

Watch the slag fall over.

Put helmet back on ( ignore this is you didn't have one to take off)

Ride off into the distance chuckling to ones self.

Alternatively pull out a tazer and do em both.

DISCLAIMER - you may very well land yourself in trouble with the law

ALTERNATIVE METHOD - Crash into her - and get her nicked for common assault and public obstruction. ( this has it's drawbacks too).

Let us know how you get on.
