Morning all,

I off to see some chums in Sheffield on Saturday morning and thought I would rider over there - but couuld do with some local knowledge about the route from Holmes Chapel. I'd rather stay off the A roads to stay away from traffic, but I don't really know the Peaks that well. I though either head for Macclesfield and then Chapel en le Frith to Hope Valley or alternatively head for Buxton and then up to Tideswell then Hope Valley.

Cheers, Graham.

Aim to get to Hathersage, then up to the top of Ringinglow Road, then left at Norfolk Arms and over to Redmires. Great roads and little traffic. Macc, Rainow, Whaley Bridge, Chapel, up to Edale, the ride along the valley from the bottom of Mam Nik to Hope is a cracker. Much nicer than descending Winnats. Then Hathersage, left just as you leave the village, and up to top of Ringinglow as before.

If Snake is closed to traffic ( roadworks) then that would be a great opportunity to ride it, wouldn't dream of it otherwise, like the smaller less busy roads.

"Admittedly"

Anyway, the A621 off the moors into Sheffield has gotta be a rush to do on a push bike (every time Ive driven it it crosses me mind).
I was going to ride from Sheffield to Hebden Bridge in the summer but decided to skip the busy roads out of the city so I caught a train to Hathersage and rode back from there instead. Lovely once I got off tha A roads and up onto Strines Moor!

Thanks all, this A621 sounds good! Will try to stick to the B roads I think - Seems to be a pretty straightforward route between Buxton to Tideswell to Bradwell so might go for that.

I sometimes extend my morning commute to take in the good bit of the A621, can be a bit breezy up there, to get to redmires you will then have some climbing to do, maybe up Long Line if you want to avoid the city.

yes, just been having a look at Long Lane and going past Redmires Reservoirs. "Long Lane" "climbing" at the end of my ride is a bit daunting, but should be a challenge!
