Right. I am near there, nice area. Unfortunately The Wilmslow Tavern is on the North side so a bit of a stagger for you on a Saturday night

Wilmslow and Surrounds Pub\Bar Guide:

Trendy town centre-Revolution (Don't have the Chilli Vodka:evil: ) and The Slug and Lettuce.

Local traditional pubs-The Farmers (spit and sawdust, good bitter), The Riflemans, The Horse and Jockey, The Swan, The Coach and Four (Has curry nights and pie nights weekly occasionally does things like live comedy with good up and coming talent), The Kings Arms (Good Thai restaurant attached), The King William (Run by Franco does proper Spanish Tapas) and The Carters (Shows the football and Rugby).

Country Gastro Pubs:hungry: - The Bird in Hand, The Frozen Mop, The Bull, The Roebuck, The Wizard, The Plough and Flail and The Staggs Head

Formulaic Chain, Drinking and Food Pubs The Merlin, The Honey Bee, The Boddingtons, The Bollin Fee (Wetherspoons, lots of ales/bitters on draft) and Miller and Carter(Formerly The Rectory)

Footballers Wags Celebs and People with Money or Pretending they have Money- Almost anywhere in Alderley, including but not exclusively, Gusto, The Bubble Room, The Botanist and The Bar and Grill.

Naked Dancing Girls:eek: - The St Lounge

Ones To Avoid The Wilmslow Tavern (On the edge of a large council estate)

I may have missed a few but that should get you started.

Is that The Roebuck in Mobberley? If so I've been meaning to go to for a while, how is it?

@Origamist, supermarket wise, there's a Booths in Media City, if you like it there is one in Knutsford also. The benefit of moving North is an improved quality of living ;)

Best bet for parking if it is busy, is to turn off the main road on the sharp bend just after the turn for the two pubs onto Church Lane two minute walk but plenty of on road parking.

Just an update. I've opted for Altrincham Rd, tunnel under the runway, Wilmslow Rd A538 (I use part cycle path and part road for this stretch as the 50mph limit is a bit of a joke!), I then run the gauntlet of the roundabout, onot Hale Road, right into Delahays Road, Thorley Lane, right on Shaftesbury Av, left at the roundabout, onto Brooklands Road, and the canal path all the way to Salford Quays.

I was initially dubious about the canal path, but it's actually direct with very few cyclists and pedestrains - just the odd goose to avoid. Journey time: 45 mins, distance 13.5 miles.

So far, I have been pleasantly surprised by the standard of driving, but it is still the Easter hols...

Good lad - the canal path is great:thumbsup:

It is worth trying out a few varieties as well though.

I've heard Origamist is quick but complaining about a 50mph limit is taking the biscuit^_^

The canal is a nice commute , apart from angry Canadian geese.

Is the canal path ok for road bike tyres? Or hybrids and MTBs only?

[between Brooklands and Stretford Marina] It's broadly OK for road tyres - perhaps a greater risk of punctures, but the surface is relatively smooth and flat. Kicks up a fair bit of dust though when dry.

I've never actually commuted along it with my road bike but I've seen a fair few people that do. If I was to use it a lot with a road bike, I'd want 25's on.

Yep, the stretch between Brooklands and Stretford is fine on 25s, but I think when my tyres get worn, I might go for 28s for that bit more cushioning. I use my light touring bike for the commute and with its longer wheelbase and slacker geometry it feels planted. Whilst the surface of the path fluctuates, it's pretty good by and large - there are not potholes or deep ruts to avoid. When it's clear I can move at a fair lick, although a goose did hiss at me this morning. Agreed - it is dusty though...

That said, I gave the canal path a go on my track/fixed bike on 23s yesterday and I would not want to do that every day as it was considerably less comfortable.

Airport, Thorley Lane to Timperley (on to Sale is my commute). Dont forget you will get change from £2 for a pint (in Wetherspoons) so you wont have to take as much money as you did darn sarth ;-)
I wear a CC top in the summer.

I'll keep an eye out!

I have not been to the Wetherspoons in Wilmslow yet, but I am planning an exploratory pub crawl this Saturday!

The Bull and Roebuck in Mobberley were very nice.
