I'm excited to be setting off on my next ride, a 5-month, route-less tour of the whole of mainland Britain, through every one of the 97 counties, starting this Monday (11th). The route will be determined by the suggestions I receive from people I meet on the road, as well as suggestions from Facebook, Twitter, email and on here. I got a load of ideas from you lot when I first mentioned this last year (though then it was just an England tour) but more suggestions would be great and the crazier, the better.

If you're interested in following the ride, have a look at www.RouteBritannia.com. From there, there's a link to Facebook. There's also a page showing where I will be and when (counties, that is) and current suggestions. And it would be great if anyone wants to meet up for a pint or to cycle along for a bit.

I hope to discover what makes Britain great, although I doubt it'll be the weather.

Sunday 26 June 10am Lynnsport, King's Lynn. Would you be interested in meeting and riding with KLWNBUG towards Cambridgeshire? I'm sure we can find some interesting stuff along the way, if so.

Will follow this with interest - webpage bookmarked. Would be great to meet for a short ride/drink if possible on condition I don't end up in one of your books. Ah, the illuminations - a bit of an event when I was a lancashire kid - cannot help but wonder what youngsters these days think of an experience based on light bulbs and a flash of neon.

Edit - oo, i see i am credited with sending you to manchester's The Circus pub. I do hope it's still open (appeared to be last summer) - a fair few pubs I know, including southern ones from cycling, have closed. one in particular i think where otherwise you could have enjoyed some wonderful cider and a unique approach to customer care. do visit as many pubs as you can on your trip - many will surely be gone in a few years.
I will double check another one when i have a free day.

That seems a bit early for where I'll be - I'm not scheduled to hit Cambridgeshire until the end of June (and if I get held up or experience mechanical problems it will be even later) - but I'm definitely up for things like this.

If you refuse to be in the book, you won't be. I promise. And besides, there might not even be a book if nothing interesting happens. To be honest, although I have The Circus listed as a place to see in Manchester, there are a few other suggestions for Greater Manchester that don't involve fighting my way to the centre of the city - black puddings in Bury for one - and so it might not happen.

Let me know where you are and we can meet for a cycle/pint. And don't worry. I'll be visiting a *lot* of pubs. ;-)

Circus is a curiosity, i don't actually remember the beer being up to much, so you can maybe live without it.

We may be able to meet up when you find yourself peckham way, at a pub once graced by richard burton and elizabeth taylor at the height of their global fame, though you would never guess it.

I will be in touch by email - i fear at least one of your pub stops (and a wonderful one) may be no more.

OK, I was working from your schedule and it looked like your last day in Norfolk

Ah right. I suspect the later the date on the schedule, the less accurate it's likely to be. I already need to adjust the schedule to accommodate a longer stay in Bristol. But if I'm around, I'm up for it.

Sounds a great trip! I'm not 100% sure I'll be around at the end of July, but depending on your eventual plans to journey through Northumberland to the Borders, I'd be happy to ride some of the way with you, give route advice and so on. :okay:
